Periodontal treatment means healthier pets.

Did you know that 85 to 90 percent of all dogs and cats more than two years of age have some degree of periodontal disease (dental infections), but only 2 percent receive treatment?

Dental health affects a pet's overall health because bacteria from the mouth has been found in diseases of the liver, kidney and heart.

• A pet that does not receive dental care may suffer needlessly.

Dental health needs a clean start.

Dental prophylaxis, cleaning the teeth to prevent oral disease and enhance overall health, is the basis of our dental program. But it is only the beginning. That's because the bacteria that cause periodontal disease do not go away when teeth are cleaned. You should know the four truths that all dentists take for granted:

• Truth #1 – Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria.
• Truth #2 – Periodontal disease can be controlled but never cured.
• Truth #3 – A dental cleaning can never remove all of the plaque and calculus, which lead to dental infections.
• Truth #4 – Residual bacteria will re-infect cleaned areas.

The fact is every dental cleaning should be followed up with antibacterial treatment. Clindamycin Hydrochloride is the only antibacterial treatment that breaks through the natural biofilm barrier to reach the bacteria that cause periodontal disease.

Along with dental cleaning to control periodontal disease, we recommend pulse therapy – that is the administration of Clindamycin Hydrochloride for the first five days of every month. We also recommend Enzadent dental treats, T/D pet food, and daily brushing with a pet toothpaste for a complete dental program.
